GOTiHe:  Two Sides of a Mountain (Part 6)

“For Compass, her journey starts within…..mountains are the obstacles in life that stand between us and our true greatness.  When we get to the foot of a mountain, it always seems impossible until we are at its peak.”

Part 6:  Reverence (“a gesture indicative of respect; a bow or curtsy”)

Compass has just achieved the UnBelievAble and now the fun begins.  The entire journey was building up to this point, the descent.  She took a final gaze at the expansive wintery landscape to absorb all of its majestic beauty with a greater sense of respect for Mother Nature and Dead Man’s mountain.  She was now feeling renewed knowing that her fuzzy blanket and socks were at home waiting getting ready to welcome her with their warmth and cuddliness.

She packed all of her remaining tools and made sure everything was tight before reviewing the dangerous path down.  She wasn’t going to just climb down like everyone would imagine, she had much bigger plans.  She was going to ski down a meticulously plotted course that leaves very little room for error. There are no known records of anyone skiing down Dead Man’s Mountain, only rumors, and she didn’t bring a camera to record it so for her this will be just another rumor.  She thought that people who do these types of adventures aren’t doing it to be well known, they do it to transcend into their higher self, to conquer the demons that lurk in the shadows of our mind and help us grow to our fullest potential.

As she knelt down to prepare her skis, she wondered how it was possible that her calf injury healed itself.  She couldn’t shake the feeling that the vision of the tunnel and light really happened.  The voice of her grandmother and seeing her younger self staring back at her felt like an out of body experience similar to one that her friend talked about. She didn’t believe him.  Compass never believed in these types of things and is having a hard time dealing with it, but knows just who to talk to when she get back.

Her skis were locked in, all of the grueling hours spend mentally and physically climbing paid off.  She positioned herself at the edge, took a deep breath, looked ahead, and pushed off fearlessly, causing her to be airborne.  She felt the rush of the moment collide with the calmness of her spirit and peaceful serenity of Dead Man’s mountain peak.  All of her troubles, fear, and worries were left at the top of the mountain buried under the fresh white snow.

As she perfectly landed, the ski blades pushed the snow into a big plume of white cloud behind her that could be seen for miles.  Her mind was at peace.  The onlookers below were in disbelief as they witnessed the spectacle and watched in awe as she turn rumors and myths into reality right in front of everyone’s eyes.  Expert skiers and trainers at all the ski lodges in the area lined up to explain away her accomplishment, by telling everyone she is lucky and how easy it is, even though they never attempted it.

Final Notes: There are two main directions in life, ups and downs which follow the laws of nature.  When climbing a mountain, gravity is constantly trying to pull you down as a negative force working against you. But the same force that works against you when you reach your peak becomes the same force that works for you on the way down.  Understanding this allows you to enjoy the ride down on your way to the next mountain.  The negative forces that work against you are also the forces that strengthens you.  For every mountain you climb, it gets easier and easier as your body and mind becomes stronger and stronger. Life’s ups and downs are obstacles that are meant to be overcome to help us grow stronger.  No matter how hard the goal or big the obstacle, if we use the continuous self-improvement process, we can accomplish anything that is put in front of us. Go deep within, conquer your mountain, and claim your greatness!
