Welcome to the Omniverse of GOTiHe

As we navigate through this journey we call life, I’m constantly reminded that all of our decisions, whether good or bad, are what make you, YOU. With this in mind, I created the GOTiHe (pronounced: GOH-TEE-YAY) collection and would like to personally welcome you to take this journey with me as we explore the themes and life lessons to self-improvement and a better way of life.

The concept of GOTiHe was derived from guest speaking about IT to a class of middle school students. The teacher wanted his students to see someone from their neighborhood, that looked like them and that grew up in similar circumstances, create many possibilities for himself and thrive in a professional field. As I was creating the presentation about the practices of IT and what paths to take to start a career in this industry, I had to stop myself. I didn’t want to just throw a bunch of information at them, I wanted to guide them through the soft skills and mental development that I had to learn in my IT career, that I thought would be paramount to any endeavor they chose. IT changes so rapidly, I felt that any information I would give them now would probably be outdated by the time they enter the job market. So instead, I took the approach of being more of a mentor (which were limited when I was growing up) and share knowledge I wish I had known through my early years to hopefully shape their future.

There’s one moment in my life that really stuck out to me and one that I thought the students would benefit from hearing. Looking back, I noticed a lot of things I did when I was their age was a reflection of how I saw someone react or act in situations in the environment that I referenced and not based on what I always directly felt or from the personal experiences that I had already encountered. As we all know, the younger you are the less life experiences you have so the less you have to draw from to guide you. Specifically, as a child I remember getting into a fight with someone because they insulted my mother. My response was I needed to fight this kid even though I really didn’t want to, but hey, that’s what all the kids around me would do in that situation. This behavior led to me having fights and not even knowing why, only that this is what I think the other kids would do. But in that moment, if someone was there to guide me and tell me there are alternate paths we can all take that don’t result in fighting, I would have thought twice and taken that path.

Have you ever been in a situation that you didn’t fully understand how to react and referenced something you’ve seen someone else do in the past, in a video or in a movie that influenced your decision?

Inherently, kids don't know what the world has in store for them, but as parents, teachers and mentors, we do our best to try to prepare them for the future. So that presentation I was supposed to do on IT, really blossomed into a teaching on life lessons I wish someone would have presented to me as a kid growing up. Sometimes we need to take a step back, reflect and share our experiences to enlighten the next generation as they also embark on this journey we call life.

And so, the GOTiHe series was born and I just can’t wait to share these experiences and more with you.
